I have written a few articles about Gears of War: E-Day already, but let’s explode the core question: Can Gears of War: E-Day actually be saved?

Trust me, guys, it’s worth your time to read them. I have covered basically everything, and this comes from a guy who had to overcharge his credit card to buy the game at the 100€ price tag (twice, if we include the refund process during the beta weekends!). I am still sinking heavy hours into the new Horde Siege mode, currently working on my third re-up, and I’ve already maxed out all 4 classes. Despite the bugs, glitches, controversial design decisions, and the toxic noise surrounding the community (both the extreme haters and those who blindly defend it), I still play the game.
Of course, as I’ve made abundantly clear in plenty of articles so far: no matter what game is out, when November 19th hits and for a month straight after, it will be ONLY GTA VI for me!
So back to the topic of this article. Can Gears of War: E-Day be saved?
In short: NO.
Unfortunately, ideological activists and corporate committee check-listing have executed the game before it even had room to breathe. We’ve watched countless game franchises and movie series butchered by forced tropes, girl-boss writing, and out-of-place agendas that alienate the core demographic.
Also once the game hit “gold” in development, it was very late and it was already doomed. The studio won’t hire new actors for voice acting and motion capture in order to fix what they broke…on purpose.
I will always fail to understand WHY modern-day California political obsession has to be forcefully injected into absolutely everything? In the rest of the actual world, reality doesn’t operate like a bubble of wealthy, privileged tech-execs. Are there diverse people in the world? For sure there are. But are they a massive majority that needs to override established lore, character dynamics, and basic story logic in every single piece of media? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Democracy means People’s Power, and by people, we mean the majority consensus. When a loud minority overrides the majority, it isn’t inclusion; it’s authoritarianism masquerading as progressivism. These people never fight actual battles where human rights are truly violated (Islamic World), they just flood the web with outrage while ruining established entertainment.
Gears of War: E-Day reportedly carried a budget exceeding $500M USD before marketing. Even if a chunk of that went into underlying engine upgrades and Xbox Game Studios tech advancements for future titles, the commercial returns for this launch are abysmal compared to the spend, reportedly pulling in around $40M USD so far.
BUT that doesn’t mean we can’t offer concrete, game-saving suggestions. In an ideal world, the studio, developers, and publishers should adopt these immediately. Better yet, they should hire someone from the actual core playerbase to oversee development. I would have saved this game 1,000,000%.
Here is the ultimate roadmap to save Gears of War: E-Day:
1. Narrative, Writing & Lore Integrity

Public Apology & Direction Pivot: Issue a direct acknowledgment of mistakes regarding narrative direction and forced activist advice.

Remove Mags Carter from Spotlight: Straight-up have Mags Carter killed off by the Locust in an opening act sequence. The Locust don’t care about background politics or identity.

Strip Forced Praise Dialogue: Remove all constant, unearned praise dialogue directed at Mags. Stop making side characters upstage Marcus Fenix or take charge of the squad when it contradicts military rank and character weight.

Respect Established Sera Lore: Honor franchise canon, have Adam Fenix build the Chainsaw Lancer as established. The blackwashing and alteration of lore origins is blatantly obvious. Furthermore, follow established timeline lore regarding COG military mobilization and female service roles during early E-Day.

Remove Real-World & Pride Flags: Remove all modern real-world pride and country flags. None of these exist on Sera, they destroy world-building and immersion.

Fix Lucas Reyes: Tone down his dialogue significantly and alter his backstory. Who sympathizes with a character whose incompetence and negligence killed his own squadmates?

Put Focus Back on Marcus and Dom: WE ALL CARE ABOUT MARCUS AND DOM. Nobody wanted random nobodies hogging screen time, stealing voice line volume, or carrying heavy narrative baggage while remaining absent from future timeline events.
- Hire new voice actors: Obviously by the result the work the current voice actors for Magsatron Carter and Lucas Reyes failed to give us interesting characters and compelling stories. They need to go if this wasn’t clear enough. The studio should hire new actors for new characters, NO DEI Bullshit hires, and write better characters. It will be expensive, it will take time but this will save the game.
2. Campaign & Companion Mechanics

Player Control over Utility Items: Give the player direct control over campaign utility tools rather than gating actions behind automated sidekick dialogue/actions.

Campaign Companion Roster: We meet various COG soldiers and civilians across the campaign. Let players unlock these characters and pick who joins their squad. This restores narrative focus to Marcus and Dom while making squad mates mechanically customization-driven rather than forced narrative baggage.
3. Horde Mode & Co-Op Improvements

Add Private Lobbies: Give us dedicated Private Lobbies for Horde mode. Players need the ability to host custom matches, lock slots for friends, modify settings, or play solo without forced matchmaking filled with randoms.

Bring Back Classic Horde: Horde Siege is monotonous and uninteresting. Bring back classic, wave-based defensive Horde mode with traditional fortifying mechanics.

More Maps & Missions: Expand Horde mode with a massive injection of new maps and mission layouts.

Mandatory Tutorials & Resource Caps: Add a clear tutorial explaining side missions and resource limits. It is infuriating to jump into Horde events only for randoms to trigger 30-minute side missions when squad weapon parts have already hit maximum capacity in the first 20 minutes.
4. Versus, Movement & Technical Core

Restore Classic Movement & Gnasher Mechanics: Overhaul movement responsiveness, fix slide-canceling latency, and tune blind-fire consistency to restore the high-skill wall-bouncing ceiling that defines Gears PvP.

Input-Based Cross-play Toggle: Add a dedicated toggle to separate PC and console lobbies by input type (Controller vs. Mouse/Keyboard) and prioritize low-ping connections over aggressive skill-based matchmaking (SBMM).

Gameplay-Driven Cosmetics & Economy: Eliminate aggressive microtransaction gating for legacy skins and execution animations. Bring back an earnable Gears 3-style unlock system tied to direct achievements, re-ups, and in-game challenges.

Server Browser & Audio Mixing: Implement a full server browser for custom games and fix spatial audio priority so footstep cues, roadie-runs, and heavy Locust rushes are clearly audible over ambient dialogue.
They took their chance, one more time, failed miserably again. Until when will we allow them to violate our games? Until when we will tolerate them poison our entertainment? I can only hope that Gears of War: E-Day was the last sacrifice on the woke altar.
Now the only thing that will be sacrificed will be the activists and HR crap.
Probably there are many more things that can be suggested. But do you know what worries me?
They knew the backlash, they knew people would ignore the game because of the “the message”, yet they proceeded anyway.
Does anyone know how large is the “modern audience”? Who likes to be lectured like this in the video games or movies and tv series?
