My (early) take on GTA VI consoles version

Hello gladiators of the Electronic Arena!

Let’s talk about: the price of GTA VI, the no disk in the physical version (for launch at least?), the Standard vs Ultimate edition and the no online mode for start! Also we will tackle the “did you pre-order it? why?

As you can tell from the image of this post, I have pre-ordered my digital copy of the Ultimate Edition!

You might wonder why did I get a pre-order? And why the Ultimate Edition?

I can reply to those questions with not just one answer, one of them is true, the other 2 are jokes, I leave it up to you to decide which is which.

  • I was afraid that internet might run out of bits and bytes and I would lose my turn for the game.
  • OR I was afraid they will run out of digital copies.
  • OR I was aiming to buy the “top edition” ever since they have announced the game, saved up money for this specific reason for long time and I just went for what I wanted for years at this point now.

You can pick whatever answer makes you happy. The fact is that I have bought it the moment it was available because I wanted to.

Now let’s talk about the other topics, I have been reading Hellenic and international forums, watching youtube videos and hearing podcasts.
Mostly the cover everything but not exactly what I think about the game and the pre-order. I am not saying their arguments are invalid or lesser than mine, I am just saying they do not cover me, they do not represent me, at least to 100%. So here I will take the stand to cover what I think. It doesn’t have to be correct.

The price of GTA VI

It might come as a shocker to most people that the game starts at 79,99€ for the standard edition and goes to 99,99€ for the ultimate edition (the one I picked). Most people go crazy that this will set new standards in the industry, companies like (n)ubisoft will only see the pricetag and continue to ship crap games like AC Shadows.
Ok I hear you, but (n)ubisoft released crap games like AC Shadows with the previous price already, they won’t need this excuse to release bad games.
And I didn’t buy that game, I did vote with my wallet. I do NOT like the falsification of history and although I am not into Asian cultures, history, games, mythology and whatnot, I am pretty sure, there was never a black Samurai. Not to derail more from this topic.
The price is indeed higher than usual BUT in my personal and super biased opinion, totally deserved!
I am not rich, not even making the 5th day of the month with my salary BUT IF Rockstar was going to ask even 499,99€ for GTA VI standard edition, I would GLADLY pay that! I would be saving money, selling my old things to gather this amount.
WHY?
Well, I have recently (before the prices went up) bought a Nintendo Switch 2. This is my first console from Nintendo since N64. Frankly I fail to see any visual difference in their games from that era to today. Having said that, I have titles like Pokemon: Pokopia, this game is by far the most boring and blunt game I have ever played! Not only it is boring and dull, but also visually is sub-par basic, even for a portable system like Switch 2 but also it DOESN’T have even voice acting OR animal sounds! And they dare to ask the same money for this crap game as Rockstar does for GTA VI!
I am sorry but fuck you nintendo!
And worse part is that the game isn’t even complete, it has paid DLCs!
So IF anyone is opening the 80€ road isn’t Rockstar but other studios. And if other studios dare to release games with outdated visuals, no voices and in general boring gameplay, Rockstar should charge MORE for a game that will be the industry’s standard for the next 2 decades -if not longer-.
Do you want games to become cheaper? GOOD! I do too! Flaming Rockstar isn’t the way to do that, start flaming the studios that release crap games for this price.
Not to mention, you can always wait for the game to go on sales…Literally NOBODY puts a knife on your throat to buy this game and more over on day 1.

No disk in the physical copy of the game.

While personally I am not fond of physical editions ever since I had a PS3 and its BR-Drive stopped reading PS3 games right after its 1 year warranty expired AND Sony didn’t want to honor the 2 years European warranty. It could play DVDs OR BR movies but it didn’t want to play the PS3 games. It was the original PS3 that had also a PS2 inside it to play the older gen titles and that system costed back in the day 600€, sounds a lot of money even for today but with inflation from that year to today this console would be more than 1000€! Anyway, back in that era, I used to have (and still have) lots of physical PS3 games. I still have the GTA 4 for PS3!
But I can’t play any of those games because BR doesn’t reading its games. With that experience in mind, every game I own since then even for PS4 (and now PS5) are only digital.

But I know people like to resell games and I hear you, myself am not a person who likes to sell stuff on 2nd hand market.
People tend to ask too many and too weird questions in order to buy a game disc for 20€ or whatever the price of the game would be.
I am not into this kind of mood, I have already lost too much from the original value of the game, losing extra time to make videos, taking high res pics, reflecting my balls onto the disk to prove it is not AI (sarcasm but you can’t believe what I have gotten when I wanted to sell my previous GPU(lost about 20€ in electricity to provide to a dude the GPU works and doesn’t crash) would make you doubt reality).
But because I am not into the 2nd hand market, this is not an excuse for me not to write good thing about what other people like and want.

Personally I am really covered with the digital download. I got 1gbps FTTH internet, the PS5 I have is digital only, no BR-Drive so I am glad.
The only thing I wish is that since they do not ship an actual physical item that requires shipping, boxing, printing and so on, the digital item price SHOULD have been cheaper. Not just GTA 6, ALL TITLES. The companies save lots of money by not shipping the real item, shouldn’t I as customer also get something more back in return? After all, I SAVED YOU a lot of money.
But the sad part is that even the physical edition of GTA 6 doesn’t have a disk in but just a code to activate on your console’s account…I mean FFS Rockstar! I know that you have stated the reason is to avoid early leaks, I hear you and you are right.

  • Just postpone then the physical editions!
  • Make it a digital launch only and start shipping the physical disks at a later stage…
  • or hear me out…make something that even IF someone steals the disk and adds to a console, that the content will be locked for some time and that only for the first time, the game would need internet connection and voila! Leaks are no longer an issue!

Standard vs Ultimate Editions?

Rockstar kept things surprisingly straightforward for Grand Theft Auto VI, skipping the usual messy middle tiers. You have two choices: the Standard Edition or the Ultimate Edition.

Both give you the exact same core story campaign, but the Ultimate Edition unlocks a substantial amount of single-player world content behind that extra 20€.

Here is a list of the things I found for both editions:

Feature Standard Edition (79.99€) Ultimate Edition (99.99€)
Base Single-Player Story Yes Yes
GTA+ Membership 1 Month 1 Month
Pre-Order Pack Yes (if bought early) Yes (if bought early)
Exclusive Vehicles & Storage None 5 Vehicles + 1 Private Garage
Exclusive Weapons None 4 Engraved & Scoped Firearms
Exclusive In-Game Shops None 5 Dedicated Storefronts
Exclusive Side Missions None 2 Unique Activities

The Pre-Order Bonus (Both Editions)

Regardless of which tier you buy, securing your copy early gets you the Vintage Vice City Pack, which includes:

  • ’55 Vapid Stanier: A classic retro sedan stored in the Shore Court garage by Ocean Beach.

  • Tommy Vercetti Camo: A palm tree weapon pattern inspired by GTA: Vice City.

  • Retro Outfits: A vintage pastel linen suit for Jason and a red sequin mini dress for Lucia.

What the Ultimate Edition Adds

While typical deluxe editions just hand you a few outfit recolors, GTA 6’s Ultimate Edition actually populates the map with exclusive storefronts, side hustles, and custom equipment.

Crucial detail: These items are chapter-gated. Instead of dumping overpowered gear into your inventory at minute one, Rockstar designed them to unlock organically as Jason and Lucia clear specific campaign milestones.

1. Five Exclusive Storefronts

These are physical locations across Leonida that Standard Edition players simply cannot enter:

  • Rideout Customs: A high-end Vice City auto shop specializing in detailed custom interiors, rims, and donk stylings.

  • One-Eyed Willie’s: Lake Leonida’s go-to shop for extreme off-road modifications and hand-painted automotive artistry.

  • Sara’s Unisex Salon: Unlocks exclusive hairstyles and facial hair for Jason, plus specialized nails and makeup for Lucia.

  • Stock 305: Stockyard’s premier boutique for elevated streetwear.

  • Electric Fang Tattoo: An iconic ink bar featuring 50+ exclusive tattoos designed by real-world artist collective FAILE.

2. Vehicles & Private Storage

  • ’95 Grotti Cheetah: A mid-90s retro sports car with a minimalist livery.

  • ’67 Vapid Dominator Buggy: A lifted off-roader built for the backwoods of Mount Kalaga. It comes bundled with the Paradise Garage in Watson Bay, which includes a personal weapon locker and a secure drop point to fence stolen goods.

  • Shitzu Squalo: A gradient pink-and-blue speedboat docked at Washington Beach, loaded with an onboard weapons crate.

  • Safehouse Toys: A Dinka Enduro dirtbike and a Crest Kayak waiting at Jason’s place.

  • Ganado Retro Build: Muscle-car aesthetic mod kits for Jason’s Vapid pickup.

3. Custom Firearms

  • Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers: A matched his-and-hers pair featuring palm-tree etched grips and high-performance scopes.

  • Personalized Sidearms: Custom engraved variants of Jason’s Girardi ES9 and Lucia’s Klose K17 pistols.

4. Extra Side Activities

  • PTT YOUNGIN$ Compound Raid: A high-stakes gang compound heist in Southside Vice City that yields unique contraband.

  • Classic Car Collection: A recurring commission line from eccentric local fixer Wyman to track down, salvage, and fully restore abandoned project cars.

The Ultimate Edition at least in my opinion is the only path.
I don’t know what the future beholds, if Rockstar will make changes or if people complain a lot some of those things change. Keep them in mind with an asterisk.

No on-line at start.

I don’t get it why so much fuss about this, most Rockstar games start as single player and get an online version at later stage.
Now, I would love to know beforehand a date this feature will come instead of this vague description that psn online supports x number of players.
My suggestion? Patience. It will be delivered when it’s ready.

1 Month of GTA+

They will be giving as it has been written here as part of the pre-order bonus 1 month of GTA+ subscription. The important thing here to remember is that it will auto renew so if you don’t want to pay every month for it, you have to go and cancel it manually after its activation.
So what is GTA+?

GTA+ (7.99€ a month) is Rockstar Games’ premium subscription service.

Originally launched in 2022 for GTA Online, it acts as a recurring “VIP Pass” for Rockstar’s multiplayer ecosystem. If you play standard GTA Online today, an active subscription gets you five main things:

  • A monthly cash drop: A guaranteed GTA$500,000 deposited directly into your in-game Maze Bank account every month.

  • The Vinewood Club: Access to an exclusive VIP members’ club, which unlocks the Vinewood Club Garage (a massive 100-vehicle storage facility) and a rotating showroom of high-end cars you can test drive or buy at a 20% discount.

  • Free rotating inventory: Every month, Rockstar designates a specific high-end vehicle, a piece of real estate (like a CEO office or Biker Clubhouse), and several clothing items as 100% free for subscribers to claim.

  • Permanent gameplay boosts: Waived fees for calling in VIP/CEO abilities, zero-cost fast travel via Downtown Cab Co., and exclusive 2x or 3x cash multipliers on select weekly multiplayer jobs.

  • The Rockstar Games Library: Much like EA Play, an active GTA+ sub gives you free digital access to download and play classic Rockstar games on your console or mobile device—including Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire, Bully, and the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition.

Closing thoughts

GTA 6 will be a game what will keep us company for at least 10+ years, if not longer than that. It will set new standards for the industry.
You can focus on the price and lose all the rest. Yes, the price got a small bump. Yes, I would prefer it if it was still 60€ but times change, economy changes, the complexity of the game changes, the budget is the largest in the whole entertainment industry (including movies).
Yes, I was kind of expecting the price bump, I was expecting also a 100€ version but to be frank (sorry Frank whoever you are), I was expecting 3 versions as most games often do. I said it earlier, there is no reason for people to get themselves under pressure to pre-order or get it at day 1 or even the first month! I would even say that people don’t need to buy it in 2026 at all! Wait for it to go on sale and play then. By then I hope it will have online mode, it would be patched 3-4 times to perform its best and who knows? Maybe by then, there will be an actual disk version of it for the collectors and all those who think “the game will disappear from my library for no reason because reasons”. You know who you are!

My personal belief (at this point it is a belief because I do not have the knowledge) is that the game will be phenomenal, we will ALL sink hours and hours in its world, it will also be the first game to update to next version once the next gen consoles comes out, I just hope it will be a free upgrade.

While we all still count down days for its launch, I would like Rockstar to give us an update on the PC version and a sneak peak on the PC specs so we call all plan accordingly. PC parts are way too expensive and there is no light in the tunnel for when and if prices will go down.
And lastly for the online, I would really like to know what is the plan for the next gta online.
Will I be able to have my money and vehicles from gta 5′ online?
What about vehicles and buildings and businesses?
Do we start from zero?
Those are legit questions with essence. Although I don’t have anything in the PS4/PS5 GTA Online, I played very little in there, I would like to carry over from the pc version which I have loads of vehicles and properties.
