GTA VI Leaks

Hello fellow gladiators of the digital world!

Over the past few days, Reddit and other forums have been flooded with GTA VI leaks by a hacker -or group of hackers- operating under the name “CyberLeek”. I won’t post any links to the material, but I am pretty sure you know exactly what I am talking about.

To be clear from the get-go: I am not posting them out of fear of DMCA strikes, but also because GTA VI is a game I pre-ordered on Day 1. In general, the GTA series consists of games I genuinely love; I don’t want to spoil the experience for anyone, nor do I want to contribute to this situation.

Although the content leaked so far isn’t much of a major spoiler, the general assumption is that this footage comes from a 2025 build. Most people only took the leaks seriously when the leaker posted a video of themselves using bullet holes on a wall to spell out “LEEK”. Until then, people treated the leaks as archived internal footage captured by Rockstar back in 2023. It took a few bullets on a wall for the world to realize that this person actually has a working PC build in hand.

Take-Two Interactive’s stock subsequently took a $2.4 billion hit. Now, I am not an investor or a shareholder -I only have credit card debt, so I have no money to invest anyway. Because of that, I don’t care all that much whether their stock dipped or whether they lost money. I can only make one observation: if investors panicked this easily over a video game leak and pulled their money out, imagine how they would react in far more serious real-world situations… But seriously, $2.4 billion? That valuation loss is more than the total production budget of the game itself!

The Crazy Witch-Hunt After CyberLeek

The same forums where these leaks appeared -along with X and other social media platforms- have launched a massive “witch-hunt” against this hacker. To what end? I honestly don’t know. Other users are questioning why these internet detectives are doing free labor in defense of a multibillion-dollar corporation that rarely cares about its consumers.

I don’t know who this person is, nor do I care to learn. I will admit I am slightly jealous that they get to play the game early, and this situation clearly proves that publishers feed us BS regarding “console-first” releases. They structure releases that way primarily because consoles don’t have widespread piracy yet, allowing them to maximize upfront profit, which isn’t inherently evil, just business.

PC games usually get cracked quickly, and many players end up downloading them for free rather than buying them, making the PC market less attractive for an initial release. I get that. What could save the PC market is an online mode; if a strong online component exists, most people will buy the game legitimately rather than pirate it. We haven’t heard a single official word about the online mode yet, which makes it tempting for people to pirate the game if and when CyberLeek leaks the full PC build.

My Stance

I have watched the leaks, all of them, I think. So far, nothing reveals core story elements or major spoilers. Visually, I am not entirely blown away, but it still looks significantly better than almost every game released since Red Dead Redemption 2. I still want to play the game just as much as -if not more than- the day it was officially announced.

Part of me wishes they would just release the game sooner. On the other hand, knowing what goes into software development, I hold the stance that they should release it only when it is truly finished—provided it doesn’t face another major delay.

If a full PC build does leak, I will not download or seek it out. Not because I fear being tracked down or having my personal info exposed, but because it would be unsigned code. Code like that almost certainly carries Trojans, viruses, cryptominers, or ransomware. I genuinely doubt a leaked build circulating online would be clean of shady business. It would undoubtedly be buggy, unoptimized, missing GPU driver support, incomplete, and full of glitches.

Dear gladiators stay true!
