Google Assistant joins the fun

The Xbox Action for Google Assistant is available to Xbox One owners in all countries where Google Assistant is supported. English language is available today, with additional language support coming soon.

With this launch, you can now interact with your Xbox One using Google Assistant and Home enabled devices, as well as the Google Assistant apps on iOS and Android. For more info, check out the setup instructions and a list of commands you can use with Google Assistant.

Gamertag improvements on console

We’ve updated gamertags to give people more choice in how they represent themselves on Xbox. Now you can choose just about any name you want. We’ve also added 13 different alphabets for gamers, which support over 200 languages worldwide. For more on how the new system works, see the Gamertag update FAQ.

Current Xbox players can keep their existing gamertags without any further action required and no change in experience. There will be no difference in how your gamertag is presented unless you want to create a new account or change your existing gamertag.

Message safety

You decide what’s OK and what isn’t in the text-based messages you receive across Xbox Live. Now you can filter messages, with four levels to choose from – Friendly, Medium, Mature, and Unfiltered.

To set a filter, go to Settings > General > Online safety & family > Privacy & online safety and select Message safety. Whenever you receive a message that’s beyond your safety setting, it’ll be replaced with a [Potentially offensive message hidden] placeholder. Adult accounts can choose whether or not to see content that’s been filtered.

Better Mixer viewing

We’re now giving you the ability the orient the Mixer chat to the left side of your screen, to the right side, or to hide it altogether.

Simplified settings

With this update, Settings is getting a new look. The menu has been condensed and reorganized, with commonly used settings at the top, improving navigation and discoverability.

Voice-to-text dictation

Dictation is expanding with support for more languages, including English (U.S. and Canada), English (India), English (UK), Spanish (Mexico), Spanish (Spain), French (Canada), French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese, with more to come in future updates.

With a headset or Kinect, press the View button whenever the keyboard is on the screen to start converting speech to text. To change preferences from your regional default, head to Settings > System > Language & location to select your keyboard & dictation language.
